Motivated Intruder Test

Categories: ,

Many organisations have datasets to publish, or want to make use of anonymisation to minimise data protection risks. How do you know whether you’re using true anonymisation, or some form of pseudonymisation? How much effort does it take to turn your anonymised dataset back into personal data?

Recommended by the ICO, a motivated intruder test looks at anonymised datasets and tells you the risk of reidentification. Ours uses a theoretical approach, backed up by an option for practical testing of a sample. A motivated intruder test starts from the assumption that all data is public and available to an attacker with sufficient motivation to attempt reidentification.
